Supriya Nagarajan’s new album “Posse of Fireflies” is certain to bring a sparkle to the sky
It might be a slightly dull Thursday afternoon but one woman who’s bringing the light is Supriya Nagarajan with her new album Posse of Fireflies. I’m definitely going to be supporting Supriya on her mission. As of 2022, roughly 90% of the world population cannot see the Milky Way from their home. Supriya is hoping to change this by calling upon the public to turn off their lights and reclaim the Night Sky!
What I find so amazing about Posse of Fireflies is how Supriya incorporates traditional South Indian sounds into the album. This comes together to create the perfect representation of the story Supriya is telling of the artist’s childhood 30-hour coal train trips from metropolitan Mumbai to rural Madras.
Supriya is certainly a woman on a mission as this isn’t the only activism that she is currently undertaking. Supriya has been nominated for Wonder Woman of the Year (Woman at Home Magazine) . (I’m sure we can all see why). Along with this she also runs a national PRSF funded mentoring program for female artists and composers to help them overcome the barriers that Supriya had faced years ago. I think we can all agree she is one exceptional woman.
If you want to join Supriya on her mission to reclaim the night sky. You can start by turning off excess lights and putting away your mobile phone to take in the beauty that the sky has to offer.
