MR. Slade gives us his take on Blondie’s ‘Call Me’
Hey Loyal fans of Colour Me Stunned. As a big Blondie fan you can imagine my delight when I got sent MR. Slade’s fantastic cover of the iconic single ‘Call Me’ and I can safely say that MR. Slade has done Debbie Harry proud.
It can be tricky for artists to nail a cover track, however, MR. Slade shows that he is an artist in his own lane. Taking this iconic song and completely re-imagining the single in his own unique and compelling styling.
Bringing a sultry sound to this classic, Mr Slade plays with the genre roles that are usually employed in the music industry. Stating: “I chose Call Me as a cover song‘ continues MR.Slade, ‘not only am I a huge Blondie fan, but I thought a song about male sex workers could have a slightly more grittier, rougher feel to it. Exploring and clashing with sounds that were either feminine and/or masculine together”
Mr Slade’s version gives a new breath of life to the lyrics. His cover shares the original references, but it also adopts a new meaning of its own… Mr Slade might just be bringing this song to a whole new generation of fans.
