Araya expresses his journey to self-discovery with new album ‘Atlas’

Brooklyn based, Thai-Chilean singer-songwriter Araya dropped his debut Album ‘Atlas’ on the 23rd January and is taking on the music scene by storm.

The album contains all his previous three singles, including ‘Colour Palette’ which was released on the 5th January as well as his older tracks ‘Gemini’ and ‘Worldly’ which were released early 2020.

After spending the past year purely focusing all his attention on developing his skills and styles as a musical artist, Araya described ‘Atlas’ as his “personal guide to self discovery”.

‘Atlas’ is an expressive 14 track album, covering themes of identity and inclusivity in a daring and explorative manner that mixes a range of styles and genres, including some elements of hip-hop, RnB, pop and house.

‘Lychee’, is soulful opening entree for the album to expand on. Over the course of ‘Gemini’, ‘Tarantino’ and ‘Baby’, the record picks up pace with an upbeat and enjoyable sound that takes the listener on a soul-searching journey, often creating an airy and psychedelic tone and exploring melodious euphony.

The next track ‘Casino’ continues with a relaxing ambience, before moving on to the already released ‘Colour Palette’ – a lyrical metaphor about the importance of aesthetic and design in the world of Araya.

‘Sad Song’ sounds exactly how you may have guessed from the name. Darker than the rest of the album, this song has deeper undertones and more of a focus on Araya’s vocal ability, with the instrumentals more toned down and the vocals amplified. 

The album picks up its buoyancy again with ‘Muay Thai’, ‘Calypso’ and especially with ‘Dancer’. Taking elements of house music, the latter track is certainly one that’ll have you on your feet.

As we get towards the end of the album, Araya slows it down a bit with ‘Tv’, a more soulful, heartfelt song with a toned down and stripped back beat to compliment gentle and honeyed vocals.

We then move on to the already-released ‘Worldly’, a tuneful penultimate song to set the pace for the closing song, ‘Eden’.

The word ‘Eden’, which in religious terms is a palace of paradise, is used by Araya to describe his journey of self-discovery. He believes he is now in his own eden after following his own passions and talents in creating music.

The message he wants to get to the world through his music is very much based around this idea of using your own strengths to your advantage and creating your own paradise right in front of you. 

Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Araya has always dreamt of having a career in music. A creative since birth, he has been making songs since the young age of 10 as a way to understand and express his emotions. 

After dropping out of college, Araya realised that education wasn’t the right journey for him. He wanted the world to hear his music, which is why he’s put all his efforts into creating an artistic and organic collection of tracks that represents him and his journey.
