Doo-wop duo The Senti-Mentals change the meaning of Christmas classic with their new single ‘You Show Me Yours At Xmas’
Paul Eccentric and John Dobinson have come together to form The Senti-Mentals – a ‘punk poet meets 50s doo-wop’ duo. Their new release is a seasonal tune in the tradition of Slade, Mud, Shaky and Wizzard. Escaping the classic Christmas cliché, ‘You Show Me Yours At Xmas’ focuses on the more humorous elements of the Christmas party season…
Eccentric and Dobinson explain that the single follows “that one guy from accounts who assumes that every lady in the office wants to go home with him. Yet he couldn’t be further from the truth.” The humorous track was originally about the ridiculousness of the ‘chatting up’ process. As a result, it has become the perfect Christmas party classic.
The lyrics to the humorous chorus perfectly sum up the feel of the track:
“Do you come here often?
Are you lonesome tonight?
Is this seat taken?
Do you have a light?
But why the pretension
When what better line….is there than
You show me yours, and I’ll show you mine.”
‘You Show Me Yours’ is accompanied by a brilliant animated video… The hilarious video tells the tale of a tragic bloke trailing around the office party. It mocks the anti-hero in his attempt to pull anything with a pulse, perfectly summing up the micky-take feel of the track.
Paul Eccentric is an accomplished singer, songwriter and playwright. He is best known for being the voice of The Antipoet. Additionally, he originally played for The Odd Eccentric, who achieved a number 1 single in Denmark. As front man of The Senti-Mentals, Eccentric wanted to take doo-wop on a whole new journey – developing a whole new 50s style of his own.
